Japanese armor from the Edo period, with a steel breastplate - Lot 40
Japanese armor from the Edo period, with a steel breastplate composed of horizontal black-lacquered slats and bearing a large kamon painted with a red senestrogyric swastika inscribed in a circle of the same color ( omote manji). Two arm protectors clad in steel mesh reinforced with hemispherical steel rods and sewn onto a dark cotton sleeve are finished with gauntlets to protect the back of the hand. The backplate and breastplate complete this protection. The lower part of the cuirass is covered with strips to protect the thighs and lower back. These dark lacquer strips are bound and held in place by lacings of dark green fabric (a few lacing accidents and splinters of lacquer). (Condition 2-)
