Extraordinary Baden cavalry officer's Pallasch. Large, flat-backed blade with counter-edge in the last quarter, line engraving on both sides of the blade. Arm, Latin motto, bird and bishop's head corresponding to the signature of the forger Peter Münch the Younger (1620/1665). Blade length 825 mm. Complex gilt-bronze mounting, symmetrical lyre-shaped top enriched with foliage scrolls at the junction with the ricasso. Double pas d'âne and poucier. Single guard branch screwed to the pommel, splitting into a hand guard joining a half guard ring. Two straight, faceted drop guard branches complete the hand guard. Strong faceted pommel and prominent rivet. Superb spindle filigree of fine steel wire winding interspersed with a thick double chevron inverted steel fiigree, finished with two filigree braids at the ends. No scabbard (Condition 1) An extremely rare piece, thanks to Jean Ondry and Michel Petard for their kind help in identifying this curious saber. See Gerd Maier's "Armes blanches Badoises", 1976.
