Superb single-shot flintlock shotgun by JV Fernandez in Madrid, 1410mm long. Long, water-blue barrel, 1030mm long, octagonal at one-third then round in 22 caliber at the pound, slightly flared muzzle. Superb moda lock (flintlock). Flat lock body bearing the signature and hallmark of arms manufacturer Fernandez. The hammer has a forepaw and a rear paw, the latter forming a cocked and half-cocked notch. The trigger notches pass through the lock body. Forged, square-headed iron buttstock, retroussis battery, internally screwed spring. The lock body and hammer bear superb engravings (eagle with outstretched wings, sheaf of wheat and coiled dragon). The weapon is iron-mounted with rich ormolu and chased bronze fittings. Volute trigger, wooden trigger guard with palm rest. Return buttplate. Walnut frame, checkered grip. Barrel stopping at mid-guard, finished with a horn hood. Functional mechanism. (1)
