Beautiful Persian Kilijh. Beautifully curved flat steel blade featuring two engraved cartouches inlaid with gold bearing the smith's signature (Amal Asadullah 1181= work of Asadullah the lion of Allah". year1767) in one cartouche and the text "Servant (Slave) of Shah Ismael" in the other. The Asadulllah signature was copied extensively and there is no guarantee that it is authentic. Symmetrical, hallmarked vermeil hilt, two hilt branches ending in pan quillons, long, symmetrical two-step auricle extending equally over both blade and plates. The sides of the sole plate, visible between the two plates, are covered with a vermeil band. Two butt plates in blond horn, rivet-mounted and curved on the pommel stock. A pierced eyelet awaits a cord acting as a lanyard. In a very curved wood-core scabbard, open at the back, with long gilded silver (vermeil) fittings, hallmarked at the chape. The scabbard is fitted with two rings on pitons, and the wooden core is covered with black leather and enriched with an inlay of silver-plated metal thread trimmings (missing). Total length 990 mm (Condition 2).
