ORIGINAL EDITION of this verse translation by Paul VALÉRY, printed opposite the Latin text and the preface "Variations sur les Bucoliques". It is illustrated by Jacques VILLON with 44 original LITHOGRAPHIES in color, including a frontispiece, a title vignette and 42 illustrations in the text, including 40 double-page illustrations, and a black cul-de-lampe. The images were drawn on colored stone by Jacques Villon, who engraved each color on a different stone in his own hand. A total of 320 stones were used. The lithographs were printed by Célestin on MOURLOT Frères presses. Limited edition of 269 copies, this one of 245 numbered on Arches vellum. A BEAUTIFUL ARTIST'S BOOK, and one of the best illustrations by cubist master Jacques VILLON.
