Beautiful First Restoration King's Bodyguard saber. Beautifu - Lot 70
Beautiful First Restoration King's Bodyguard saber. Beautiful curved blade with throat. Flat back highlighted with a fine gutter, terminal counter-edge. The back of the blade is marked "Manufacture Royale du Klingenthal Septembre 1814" (Klingenthal delivered only 400 sabers of this type in 1814, making it the rarest variant). The right throat of the blade bears the inscription "Gardes du corps du Roi", framed by two fleurs-de-lis under an attractive bundle of arms. The base of the blade bears two hallmarks, "B" surrounded by laurels (JC Bick) and "B" surmounted by a star (Borson). The other side of the blade bears in its throat a trophy of arms, the crowned arms of France framed by laurel and the radiant sun. Chased cast bronze mounting, long-tail cap. Main guard branch subdivided into three strands framing the plate decorated with the crowned arms of France surmounted by the Holy Spirit. Fleur-de-lys quillon, slightly arched to the front, bearing the Chateaubrun Directeur and Bick hallmarks and the "Versailles" marking. Blade length 935mm. Wooden buttstock in shagreen reinforced with a brass herringbone filigree. Second-model scabbard in sheet steel with brass strap, cap and bowl. Minor crack to the bronze guard on the inside of the plate. Condition 1
