Mwenze KIBWANGA (1925-1999) Antelope hunters Oil on canvas signed lower right 57 x 82 cm Pierre-Romain Desfossés, a former Breton officer in the French navy, with a passion for African art and fascinated by the talents of local artists, decided to open the doors of his studio to them in 1946 in Elisabethville (now Lubumbashi). Nicknamed Le Hangar, the studio was later officially renamed the Académie d'Art Populaire Indigène.
