Kabinda is one of the great Congolese painters, influenced by the Elisabethville school. He draws his inspiration from nature, offering magnificent scenes in vivid colors perfectly combined to form compositions as harmonious as nature itself.
Pierre-Romain Desfossés, a former Breton officer in the French navy, with a passion for African art and fascinated by the talents of local artists, decided to open the doors of his studio to them in 1946 in Élisabethville (now Lubumbashi). Nicknamed "Le Hangar", it later took on the official name of the Academy of Indigenous Folk Art.
