Superb veneered box with ebony and brass marquetry corners a - Lot 150
Superb veneered box with ebony and brass marquetry corners and lid featuring a shield awaiting a brass cut-out engraving highlighted by an ebony marquetry frame. When the box is opened, the lid flap features a wine-red velvet trim decorated with floral scrolls hot-embossed directly into the velvet, the center of which bears the gilded signature in block letters "E. LEFAUCHEUX PARIS". (Eugéne Lefaucheux armurier inventor in Paris 1832/1892). Unfortunately, the compartments of the box have been torn away, leaving the wood bare, and only the cartridge box with its ivory knob remains. The box does, however, contain the essentials, namely a Lefaucheux system pinfire revolver known as "à feu continu type 1856", triple-action lock known as "à hésitation", in 7mm pinfire caliber, sumptuously crafted in deeply engraved steel with remnants of gilding highlighting the deep floral engravings covering most of the weapon. Triple-action mechanism, signature on barrel "E. LEFAUCHEUX Bté A PARIS" in cursive letters. The text "E LEFAUCHEUX BREVETÉ" can also be seen on the side of the trigger guard. Weapon number "LF 9904". Smooth polished elephant ivory stock plates. Functional mechanism. In the box is a flat screwdriver, also in elephant ivory, with fine floral engravings in black schrimshaw (working revolver mechanism). (Condition 1+) The cartridge compartment contains the key to the case lock. Case dimensions: 250 mm x150 mm x 65 mm. Revolver length 200 mm This lot comes with its CIC n°FR2603100013-K dated January 26, 2006.
