Large primitive flintlock pistol from the 1st third of the 1 - Lot 100
Large primitive flintlock pistol from the 1st third of the 18th century. Long octagonal barrel at chamber level, then multifaceted and finally round, smooth in small caliber as was customary at the time (38 bullets to the pound for this example.) Flat primitive lock signed "F BERARDIER", flat swan-neck hammer bassinet iron with sides battery spring screwed from the inside. The absence of a nut flange confirms the weapon's precociousness, if its general shape did not. Brass-mounted weapon, flattened round trigger guard on rolled trigger. Cap with long braces, large thumb piece, counterplate cut to size. Beautiful varnished walnut frame extending to the muzzle and secured to the barrel by pins. The wooden fittings are highlighted with relief carvings. Functional mechanism, later wooden ramrod. Length 440 mm (Condition 1-)
