[ARCHITECTURE]. POST (P.). DEN DOORLUCHTIGEN HOOGHGEBOREN VORST EÑ HEERE WILHEM HENRICK, van Gods genade Prince van Orange, werden dese afbeeldingen, van weinighe shoorsteen-wercken, meest ten bevele vande doorl. [Etc.]. [Amsterdam, 1655]. Small folio in stiff ivory vellum with visible stitching, smooth spine (contemporary binding). The side flaps of the vellum are detached from the cardboard boards, traces of cuts on the vellum of the 2nd board with a small lack of vellum. VERY RARE ORIGINAL EDITION of this work written in Dutch and dedicated to DOMESTIC CHEMINÉES. It comprises an ILLUSTRATTED TITLE and 22 plates (2 of which are folding). They were drawn by Pieter POST (1608-1669) and copper-engraved by Jan MATTHYSZ (active from 1654 to 1685), with the exception of two by Pieter NOLPE (1613-1653). Ten of the fireplaces come from the "Sael van Orange", now known as the "Huis ten Bosch" palace, home of the Dutch royal family in The Hague, built to plans by architect Piter POST. There are 2 leaves bound at the head (small loss at the corner of the 1st leaf, without affecting the text): the 1st page serves as a faux-title entitled "De Sael van Orange", the 2nd contains an extract from the privilege and a table of plates, the 3rd is a dedication to Princess Louise Charlotte of Brandenburg (1617-1676), the 4th is blank; followed by 7 double-page PLATES (4 views and 3 plans of Sael van Orange's palace) and 3 folding PLATES of views and sections of the palace, all engraved on copper. FOLLOWING the work proper are 30 PLANCHES on which have been mounted 55 copper engravings of domestic fireplaces from Dutch (Amsterdam, Justus Danckerts) and French (Paris, Langlois) collections, also "Nouveaux desseins de cheminées à l'italienne" by Jean le Pautre (4 engravings) which are "à Amsterdam, chez Cornelis Danckerts". RARE ENSEMBLE.
