Two parts bound in one volume in-folio ½ tan chagrin, chagrined paper boards decorated with a gilt fillet frame, smooth spine decorated throughout with gilt irons with birds and insects, gilt foliage and scrolls, gilt title (Period binding); frontispiece, (9) ff. including title printed in red and black, (25) ff. table - (1) f. title printed in red and black, (25) ff. table - 102 plates. Defects to binding: discoloration to spine with brown ring of wetness, 3 traces of impact to upper cuts with paper tears, open corners with paper tears, rubbing to boards and spines. Defects in the body of the book: scribbling in ink or colored pencil on plates 2, 7 and 77, tear in the margin of plate 55 without missing or affecting the drawing, light freckling in the margins. ORIGINAL EDITION of the first 2 parts of this work, which appeared from 1749 to 1776 and comprises 9 volumes with 747 color plates, including 426 of birds. The 2 parts are complete with the allegorical colored FRONTISPICE, all 102 MAGNIFICENT COLOR PLATES, and the title and table leaves.
