DIEUZAIDE (Jean, known as Yan, 1921–2003). 25 PHOTOGRAPHS OF - Lot 221
DIEUZAIDE (Jean, known as Yan, 1921–2003). 25 PHOTOGRAPHS OF TOULOUSE: MONUMENTS, AERIAL VIEWS, AND THE BANKS OF THE GARONNE. Undated. Set of 25 original black-and-white photographs (averaging approximately 24 x 19 cm), silver gelatin prints in various formats, some with white margins or the inscription “Photo Yan” within the image. Numerous stamps on the reverse: “YAN Photo Report,” “Photo Jean DIEUZAIDE,” or “J. DIEUZAIDE,” along with addresses in Toulouse, reproduction notes, file numbers, and handwritten captions that attest to the professional use of these prints. Some signs of handling, creases, minor scratches, and marginal damage; traces of adhesive on some reverse sides. A BEAUTIFUL DOCUMENTARY AND ARCHITECTURAL COLLECTION DEDICATED TO TOULOUSE. The photographs include views of the Basilica of Saint-Sernin, the Church of the Jacobins (octagonal bell tower, interior architecture, and the famous “palm tree”), the Hôtel d’Assézat, and Saint-Étienne Cathedral, the latter depicted at night, with cars and streaks of light on the square. Several aerial views show the city’s monuments and rooftops, as well as Place Wilson and the Allées Jean-Jaurès. The compositions taken along the banks of the Garonne feature Notre-Dame de la Daurade, the quays, the bridges, and the Grave Dome, under cloudy skies or through the trees along the riverbank. A BEAUTIFUL COLLECTION combining the precision of photojournalism, an exploration of cultural heritage, and artistic expression, particularly evident in the low-angle perspectives, the reflections on the river, and the nighttime lighting.
